I figured if even
depudor was man enough to watch the SERIES FINALE of Veronica Mars, hanging up on me in order to concentrate, I could handle it.
The first ep wasn't great, but there were (I'll admit it) one or two lines that didn't suck completely, though I'm so totally over the "Vee and Keith accuse Weevil even though they know he's good and eventually he's proven innocent and then everyone's relieved!" storyline. OVER IT. Which is why I really liked the ending. Evil Weevil, being evil. Like ya do. Which would be a good way for him to go out, if I was going to admit that S3 exists. Which I don't. These episodes are all apocryphal. I do not accept any of them as effecting canon. VM ENDED WHEN BEAVER JUMPED.
The second ep was even better. Have I been able to say anything that positive yet this season? I don't think so. Logan was protective and loyal and hitting first and asking later and doing more than just sitting on a white couch. YES! Though would Logan suggest surfing to help with Dick's emo problems? No. No he wouldn't. He would hug. He's more sensitive than the surfing question, but the ass who wrote Keith's WAY OUT OF LINE comment about gentleman callers and surfing probably wrote that shit, so oh well.
And then there's the *shudder* bed-scene. I'm sorry, I just can't call that a sex scene. The banter was just a little too, what's the word I'm looking for... CREEPY. I was just grateful to not have to endure CL's nipples again. Thanks for that, "Private Practice." Even if you do recast him over the summer, you still did that. You can't undo it by recasting. It's like deleting an entry. You can't take it back. It's already out there!
And the final straw for my hatred of this year's lighting? I couldn't even tell if that was Kyle Secor for awhile. COULD NOT TELL. Too much shadow, too much stubble, too much everything. And they could pay him enough to show up, but not enough to SHAVE? I get that Lilly's death and Donut's disappearance (probably like a death in that he'll never see him or Baby Lilly again) would hit him hard, but I don't think that character would react by going all scruffy. He was always clean, polished, and preppy, even when he broke down over Lilly at the fountain dedication (pretty much the only time I ever liked Jake Kane.)
I even had a favorite moment! Yes! Vee's hat when she breaks into Kane's weird giant velvet portrait decorated hunting lodge! That hat! IT'S FROM SEASON ONE! Now if only someone had been wearing argyle. That could have brought me to tears.
Thankfully, I didn't see the big Logan = Aaron parallels that were threatened for this ep, cause that would have resulted in me yelling at the TV loud enough for the neighbors to call the cops. Maybe. I did, however, rejoice at Keith destroying evidence and getting caught! Finally caught! BREAKING THE LAW AND GETTING CAUGHT. Suck it, Keith. Take your high and mighty BS and shove it. I used to love you, but you let me down again and again. As someone who used to be awesome said: "I bet on you and you let me down again. So get out." Or something like that. Y'know, in the S2 finale.
Speaking of which, I watched the S1 and S2 finales as soon as I was through with the S3. I needed to remember what good TV was like. The S1 and S2 actually had big stuff to reveal and wrap up and deal with. This seemed empty and anti-climactic. Kinda blah. Like S3 itself.
juls_chuls wrote a really good entry saying good bye to VMars this morning without bitterness. I think if a little time passes and I watch S1 & S2 again I could talk about it without bitterness, but I really liked her point about why the bitterness is there in the first place.
And really, the reason why so so many of us have been bitter and scathing for so long is because if we're not? We just feel like crying at how it could have been compared to how it was. If we hadn't cared so much about VM in such an incredibly overwhelming way to begin with, it wouldn't have hit us this hard when it started to implode. I can't even let myself think about how excited and ridiculously impatient I was for S3 to start, and about how I gradually went from that to this over the course of a season.
So much word. Remember how much I used to gush about Mars? About the lines and the stories and the characters and the actors and the everything? When
playmayt insisted "You have to meet them. These are your people."? How Keith Mars invaded my brain and forced me to buy a Sugar Daddy "Who's Your Daddy?" shirt which I then wore to a VM watching party? How excited I was to watch the S3 premiere a week early online at
depudor's? And she and
sweetcynic23 couldn't wait for me so they watched it before I got there and then watched it over again with me?
schnappycat's best of all possible comms in the world,
rack_of_lamb? The fact that I had an lj icon specifically to be the default for all day Tuesdays and would try to only use VMars icons when posting and commenting on Tuesdays? Because it was Veronica Mars day. The show just became something I couldn't love with that much enthusiasm, that much fun and joy and devotion. It became the mean drunk dad who smacked me in front of my friends. The sketchy uncle who went to jail and embarrassed the rest of the family. But before that, there was good. Lots of good. And even after that, there was still lots of giggling, lots of games, lots of drinking and laughing. I've met some awesome people online, the nicest man in Hollywood, and some really great friends in RL. And I'll always love S1 & S2. And Logan and Mac and Wallace. And maybe, just maybe, one day I'll even love Veronica again. One day.
Until then, I leave you with this vid, shameless stolen from
juls_chuls's post, because I think it's the end VMars deserves. It's like a greatest hits vid. It makes me happy.
