Disney Burns-- Excellent
"...no, I checked the contract specifically, and it doesn't exclude 'Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo.'"

"Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" is not being used as me for a placeholder, it's what she said. A term searched for in a contract.

Alright, whatever, but it made me laugh. Sometimes my place of employment is just a tad surreal.

Oh the thrills!
Man, was I bored last week. Stayed in every night to get over being sick as quickly as possible. And it worked (for the most part.) This week:

Monday-- Impromptu shopping and dinner with [info]jenn_ness. Thanks Borders, for sending me an awesome coupon I had to use to put it all in motion. Unfortunately the Ninth Doctor was not in residence at the Glendale Borders, so I got "My So-Called Life" instead. Watching it again is like a big ball of curly-wurly time stuff curling in on itself and being able to talk to my fifteen year old self: painfully moving, not quite as good as I remembered (imagined?) it would be, and almost impossible.

Tuesday-- Company Christmas party at Disneyland. Great, fun, too short! Got down there a bit late as a school bus clipped our bus while getting on the freeway, resulting in half an hour by the side of the road and accident reports for all. Still, ran all over the park, went on lots of rides, had fun. We were both amazed when midnight came. Could have sworn it was only 10.30 or 11. Of course, once my body knew what time it was, I was exhausted and slept most of the way home.

Wednesday-- As B just pointed out, I need to get some sleep. I'm a wee bit cranky today and my pet peeve (repeating myself) is coming into play A LOT. Christmas tree shopping with the roomie and an early night. Thank goodness.

Thursday-- SWEENEY TODD SNEAK PREVIEW! Which is great, cause I really really want to see it, and I'm really really sure I'm probably going to hate it so I very much didn't want to pay for it. Win-win!

Friday-- Christmas tree lighting and holiday carnival here on the lot. Should be fun, and then an early night to rest up for the weekend o' Disney.

Saturday-- Disneyland with [info]playmayt in the morning, holiday party afterwards.

Sunday-- Disney games and movies with [info]playmayt, including Song of the South! Should be fun.

Icon Meme of Cuteness

Eddie- 70% how you look...
Like many awesome things in this crazy world, this comes from [info]stepliana:

Comment on this post. I'll choose seven userpics from your profile and you'll reply here (or you know, your own journal, whichever), explaining what they mean and why you're using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

The 7 icons she asked me about:

1. Mary Blair girl:
I <3 Mary Blair. Despite my overwhelming love for Frank & Ollie, Blaine Gibson, Bob Gurr, Eyvind Earle, and hundreds of other animators, artists, and imagineers who have shaped, colored, influenced, and built the Disney look over the years, her round world and use of color has really stuck with me. I believe this little girl comes from concept art she did for Three Caballeros. She's just darling. She usually comes into play on basic posts for which I have no real theme. She's just sorta me.

2. Fincher:
This is a quote from a movie I absolutely hated. It's on Brad Pitt's Tshirt in the photo on the cover of a magazine in Full Frontal, undeniably the worst movie by Steven Soderbergh. This waste of celluloid was made pretty soon after Joe Mechanic lost his job over the whole David Fincher's Fight Club not making a dime debacle, and this T was apparently Soderbergh's/Pitt's take on the deal. Or something. Maybe? At any rate, I have loved the quote ever since, say it all the time, and it's the only good thing in the movie. Seriously, don't watch it. It will make you question humanity. I use this when talking about movies or being kinda ranty.

3. My OTC:
If you've spent any time in any of the many terrifying TV fandoms, OTP means One True Pair to you, or the couple the show should never screw with. Likewise, OTC means One True Crack, as in the single substance I could never live without. This is a picture of a Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuit. I cannot live without these, even if all I can do all too often is dream about them. This is my One True Crack. I have another icon I use for all posts and comments to food comms, and use this when talking about food in my own lj or other people's personal ljs.

4. Cluedo:
I game, therefore I am. Clue is one of the first boardgames I remember playing when I was little. My wonderful and ever-patient babysitter Katrice used to play Clue with me for hours when I was six. I don't know how she did it. But I love boardgames still, and this usually pops up when I post about them.

5. I will cut you:
This kid is pissy. This kid is in no mood. This kid is not playing around. This kid will cut you. When I feel like that, he comes out to scowl. Think of him as an early warning detection system for when not to screw with me.

6. My Steve w/chopsticks:
My Steve! With chopsticks! One of the coolest men in the world, using the best eating utensils ever devised. Really, they are so useful, I am not even kidding. All the noodle problems presented by pasta, soup, all that? Dangers of being rude in not eating everything on your fork when attempting to enjoy dumplings and such? Solved by chopsticks. Also, he's cute in this and I really liked the colors and the whole look. That green by his arm is great. I use this when talking about food (I have lots of food icons cause I talk about it a lot, duh) or the overall awesomeness of My Steve.

7. Woo Woo for Lloyd:
Another Woot! icon, so we don't all get sick of OMFG YAY or Oh the thrills! Except I don't use this very often. Actually, I forgot I even had it. Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to use this more often.

That's it. Let me know if you want in on this kooky action.

The insanity that is September continues.

Good Puppy
I spent last weekend effectively out of town at a game convention. Yes, I totally was that geek playing Eurogames for three days with hundreds of other geeks at a hotel near LAX. It was great, except for the whole no sleeping thing. I ran my first game of Werewolf (of course I've played before, first time modding) with a truly excessive 26 participants. If there's a great big HUH on your face right now, I'm just saying, you need to play. This game is much fun.

Daniel vanquishes a foe in the swordfighting pit at Gateway2007

I've spent the last week recovering from the long weekend, which for me means passing out long before midnight every night, no matter how loud the rap/video games/stand-up comedy is blaring next door.

Last night a few friends and I saw The Jungle at the El Capitan! They're just showing it for a month to publicize celebrate the 40th anniversary special edition DVD coming out soon. Richard Sherman wandered out of the theatre before the show and stood around outside for a moment but I was way too shy to go up and introduce myself. Oh well. If the DVD transfer is what we saw last night, it's gorgeous and I can't recommend it highly enough. Far more information than anyone wants back here. )

Flying up to SF tonight for my cousin's wedding tomorrow. Giants game with my parents Sunday (YAY!) then back Monday morning just in time for work. Next weekend is the only weekend this month I'm really in town-- and all I've got going is Avenue Q Saturday afternoon, games Saturday night, film festial screenings Sunday afternoon and Pink Martini at the Bowl Sunday night. The weekend after that Kevin's in town! The weekend after that I'm in Houston for my 10 year high school reunion. The weekend after that is October. Good grief. Where has the year gone?

PS-- One more video from The Jungle Book screening (mostly for my parents:) a pencil test of Baloo & Mowgli animated entirely by Frank Thomas according to Don Hahn. Apparently he and Ollie animated over half of the finished film themselves. Wow.

Memeage and News

Burn Disney Burn!
Meme first. From [info]mondaysabitch, as usual:

Random Joy

1.When I dance I look like ________?
I'm having fun. Peanut gallery, shush it!

2.Who's your favourite famous alien? [info]playmayt, yeah, I almost said that, but I gotta go with Spock. Oldie but a goodie.

3.If you're a fan of __________ don't talk to me? Matchbox 20. Present company excluded, but only just. *shudder*

4.When is the last time someone yelled at you and why? Hmm. Last Saturday night. It sucked. I screwed up and everyone was tired.

5.What is your favourite Justin Timberlake song? I don't know that I have one... wait. Homelesstown? That SNL skit where he schooled the Salvation Army Santa. That was pretty good.

And THIS JUST IN:

Disneyland's raising the prices on character meals again, and now Ariel's Grotto is more than Goofy's Kitchen! It used to be something of a deal, cause it was about half the price (just over $15 to Goofy's $30 per adult) and they brought you a dish of warm fresh cotton candy between courses. Now that's my idea of a palate cleanser. But with the new prices as of September 12th:

Minnie & Friends - Breakfast in the Park at Plaza Inn (Disneyland) - Adults $25.99, Kids (3-9) $13.99
Ariel's Disney Princess Celebration at Ariel's Grotto (Disney's California Adventure) Adults $27.99, Kids (3-9) $15.99
Lilo & Stitch Aloha Breakfast at Disney's PCH Grill (Paradise Pier Hotel) - Adults $25.99, Kids (3-9) $13.99
Chip 'n Dale Critter Breakfast at Storyteller's Cafe (Grand Californian Hotel) - Adults $25.99, Kids (3-9) $13.99
Goofy's Kitchen (Disneyland Hotel) Brunch - Adults $25.99, Kids (3-9) $13.99
Goofy's Kitchen (Disneyland Hotel) Dinner - Adults $31.99, Kids (3-9) $13.99

It's now about comparable with Goofy's for dinner and more than brunch, while the food is still nowhere near as good, and the cotton candy is no more. Pfft. I see no reason to ever go back to Ariel's.

Excellent ham at the commissary today. Yes, Kids in the Hall fans, it was that good. And as I thought that, I suddenly remembered that there is in fact a chance that I might see Bruce McCulloch on the lot someday. And that effin' good ham and McCulloch combined to make me smile, right there, by myself, eating lunch. But, oof. Am full.

Good to know.

Disney = Made of Awesome
I didn't know it before Sunday, but if you knock and ask very nicely, the captain will allow you to come up to the little cabin at the very top of the Mark Twain steamboat. And then she'll let you ring the bell and blow the whistle. It's pretty wonderful.

Everything looked so different from up there. The change in perspective did wonders for refreshing subject matter that I've seen dozens of times. Everything looked so new, so different, much like being closer to the displays and the ground did in the Lilly Belle (pictures tomorrow.)

Sure wish they'd do that over here.

Burn Disney Burn!
Hong Kong Disneyland just announced a new student's AP (possibly to shore up disappointing ticket sales, but the park's not quite up to admitting that just now.) Available to full-time students ages 12 to 25, the three passes break down really affordably. A weekdays only version is to HK$460, or just under $59! Weekdays and limited weekends is HK$930, or about $119 American, and the Premium equivalent, all days, is HK$1,250, which sounds like a lot until you realize it's about $160 over here. Wow. Wish that was the deal here, but the parks are just too well attended. Y'hear that people? Stop going to Disneyland and the prices will fall.

Yeah. Not gonna happen. But it was worth a shot.

Interesting Phone Call.

Disney = Made of Awesome
Just got off the phone with very nice El Capitan group sales lady. She called to let me know that there'll be a panel discussion on opening night of The Jungle Book at the El Cap, Thursday, September 6th. Ah, yes. The night of the infamous Boris Gudonov concert no one wants to come to with me. That's why I don't have tix to this. Panelists still being determined, but so far Don Hahn and Richard Sherman are definitely on board. We talked a little bit about how very very awesome Sherman was at the Mary Poppins sing-along, and I managed to refrain from telling her that I had some great video of him from that night because I enjoy my job and would like to keep it. Hello, copyright infringement! So if anyone would like to go to the Jungle Book night, let me know cause I can get tickets through work for $8 each. I'm seriously considering dumping the Boris seats and going to this instead. Thoughts? Anyone? Y'all wanna?

Bat's Day kicked my ass.

Capt. Hook
Dude. Bat's Day totally beat me up and left me by the side of the road. Exhausted. Sunburnt. Camera full of pictures. All in all, a very good, though very long, day. Pictures from the insane group photo in front of Sleeping Beauty castle are up now, the shots from the top of the Mark Twain and inside the Lilly Belle will go up tomorrow and the next day.

Whew. I need a nap.
Disney = Made of Awesome
From [info]mondaysabitch:

Walt Disney

1. What is your favorite Disney movie?
Mary Poppins. I think. Wait. Sleeping Beauty. Mmm, Peter Pan. But Robin Hood is really good, too. Also Bedknobs & Broomsticks. But no, I think Mary Poppins wins. AT EVERYTHING.

2. Have you ever dressed up or attempted to as a Disney character? I don't think so. I think not even at Halloween when I was little. But I do have grand plans for a Small World Holland kid sitting in a tulip costume that will involve papier mache and a small engine. You should see Halloween here on the lot. It is madness.

3. Which Disney song do you know all the words to? The nanny ad from Mary Poppins. "If you want this choice position, have a cheery disposition..."

4. If any Disney character could be your BFF, which one would it be? Dude. MARY. Have we not already discussed how she wins at everything? If she's taken, Mulan, I guess. Or Jiminy. Mulan gets it done, and Jiminy's handy in a pinch.

5. Name as many dwarves as you can in 20 seconds. Time yourself. Are you kidding me? Sleepy, Sneezy, Doc, Bashful, Dopey, Grumpy, and Happy. I think that was about 10 seconds. Including the "Are you kidding me?" Next.

See? I could not skip that. It was not physically possible. Also this just in, again from [info]stepliana:

Name up to three aspects of my life you want me to photograph. They can be specific (my bedroom), or not so specific (something red).

So beautiful...

  • Jul. 23rd, 2007 at 3:21 PM
Lady - Amazed

How cool is that? So pretty... too bad it costs $100, serves no discernable purpose except to collect dust on your shelf and look pretty, and the "affordable" packages that would allow you to try to buy it start at about $45 and go up to $795 (though for the top three you do also get hotel rooms.) The Art of Disney Parks event looks really cool, but unless there's a significant cast member discount, odds are I won't be there. Even if there will be awesome stuff, like a few of the 50s in Mickey heads that hung all over the park during the big celebration, including the web from the Haunted Mansion, the Tiki's 50th and the Indy tin model on auction. And a "Dream Sale" where smaller 50th keepsakes will be offered. There are so many cool things in the merchandise and auction categories, including some truly gorgeous original art, that I'm not even posting pics of them, you'll just have to go look for yourself.

Sigh. I'm keeping the dates in September open all the same.

Oh! And wouldn't this be just perfect in a $35 print on my wall? I love it, but don't worry Dad, I'm not even thinking about the $4,700 original or the $580 giclee on canvas reproduction.

Last Richard Sherman Story

Mad Hatter laughing
When I uploaded the other Richard Sherman bits I taped at the Mary Poppins sing-along at the El Capitan in January, youtube wouldn't accept my favorite one because it was 7 KB too long. Then awesome Davebo led me to this awesome site which would make awesome shorter conversions of videos and I was awesomely able to fix it so youtube would accept it! Take that youtube! You will take my Richard Sherman videos and you will like it!

Disney = Made of Awesome
The last few days have been so jam-packed with awesomeness, how do I decide where to begin?

Should I talk about how totally sweet Harry Potter in IMAX 3D was Friday night, and how they managed to turn my least favorite HP book into a movie I love?

Or how John Williams at the Hollywood Bowl Saturday night was so good that I now want to go every year he does this concert, preferably with seats down front? And that I will be bringing a light saber with me from now on?

Video by Ron

Or the really cool retirees I ran into when I got off the red line Sunday night and followed to my new favorite shortcut from the Civic Center stop to the Ahmanson? These people were great. The woman I talked to most was a crack-up. I ran into them again as we were all leaving and she and I chatted the whole way home.

Or maybe last night. When a friend and I saw a panel with Dave Smith and Les Perkins and Tony Baxter hosted by Tim O'Day? And then watched a 1963 short made especially for Radio City Music Hall called "Disney goes East" which featured Walt talking from the screen to a live actor playing Mickey onstage, with Walt doing Mickey's voice. In 1963. Really late. No falsetto left. And then we watched a beautifully restored 1956 entry in the People & Places series of international travelogues called "Disneyland USA" with gorgeous color photography of Disneyland from December 1955 and August 1956. And then I met Kathryn Beaumont and her very sweet husband Al. And then we watched the 42 minute People & Places featurette again. And then about 15 of us sat around and listened to Les Perkins and Tony Baxter talk for about 45 minutes. Cause when guys these interesting and cool and connected and Disneyfied let you listen in on their conversations, you do. And then you say thank you.

I took lots of pictures of the pictures they had up onscreen before it all got started. I'll post some every day til they're gone. My pics aren't great, cause each shot was only there for a few seconds before it was whisked away and replaced with something equally awesome, so it was more a matter of getting the darn thing than making sure it was framed well and from a good angle. Sorry.

We have to wait until November 21st?

Anyone else out there seen the trailer for Enchanted?

That slightly spoilery review over at Jim Hill?

Anything? Anyone else excited? Anyone?

CAUSE I AM!

Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Susan Sarandon, and Idina Menzel sounds like a pretty fun cast to me. Throw in Barry Sonnenfeld who can do no wrong as far as I'm currently concerned and you're making it very hard for me to wait patiently until November 21st to see this. I may start poking people on the lot for sneak peeks soon. In the mean time, there's stuff like this on YouTube to keep us distracted.

Ow. That was insult being added to injury.

I am so pissed I missed this. Yes, I spent this weekend being extremely broke, but I would have mustered what I could for this. An Estate Sale at the home of my favorite of the Nine Old Men? A chance to actually have something of his to remember him by? A chance that I just barely missed? Ow. I'm almost in tears. That'll learn me to skim MousePlanet.

Changing Habits in May

  • May. 1st, 2007 at 1:02 PM
Little Miss Stubborn
When my alarm goes off I hit the snooze button. Again and again. Lately it's been getting worse, and I hit the snooze seven or eight times or so, spend an extra hour in bed, then rush about getting ready for work and still end up late.

Also, I don't feel so great afterwards. It feels like I get groggier and sluggier every time I steal nine more minutes from myself. I don't like it at all.

So I'm not doing it anymore.

In May 2007:

I will wake up every work day morning at 7am when my alarm goes off. I may lie in bed for a minute and listen to the song playing if it's one I particularly like, but I will under no circumstances hit the snooze button or close my eyes again.

I will work out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning for about half an hour. I'm going to have almost an hour of extra time every morning. Got to do something with it!

I will post at either my Disney blog or Fun With Dead Trees on Tuesday and Thursday, just so that they don't feel like Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are getting all the fun. My Dad's been giving me hell about neglecting my duties, asking me if we're ever going to get out of Adventureland. Yeah, Dad, you made your point. And I love to read and must conquer typepad. The interface is different and a little confusing, but it's not like I knew everything about livejournal when I started writing here. I can't let a few questions of form stop me from talking about books when Kapgar was kind enough to add me to the site.

That's it. In May it's all about the day to day working week.

Interview Meme!

  • Apr. 17th, 2007 at 12:51 PM
Little Miss Chatterbox
Spotted on Kapgar's blog. It looked superfun so I raised my hand when he offered to interview others.

1. Most of us know that you are living out part of the dream by working at your ideal workplace. But what job title would you want there if you could have any?

Director of the Archives, technically, but 400 lb Gorilla, really. What does a 400 lb Gorilla do? Anything it wants. I'd love to spend the rest of my life researching, chonicling, and exploring Disney's interaction with modern culture and how they both inform each other constantly. I'd especially love to focus on Disneyland as a microcosm of America, really digging into its development throughout the 20th century and how it parallels and precedes America's development; and one day get to know the other Parks all over the world as well as I know Disneyland to compare and contrast. My dream vacation is a (working) world Disney tour, beginning here in Anaheim, then on to Florida, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and then back at the original Disneyland for another period to process all I've seen. I'd want a couple weeks at each stop, to really explore the settings and see how the Parks fit into and illustrate the cultures they're located in and have become a part of. In addition to running the Archives and getting to hang out with all that cool stuff all day (How much does Dave Smith enjoy his job? He wore Mr. Banks' smoking jacket to the opening night of the Mary Poppins sing-along. It's just one more reason the man is my hero.) I'd also love to guest-host VIP tours at Disneyland occasionally. I love sharing the Park with people and seeing eyes light up when they learn that someone really planned all this, every last detail, to make sure they have a magical day.

2. How did you get into blogging? Give us some details.

An old friend (actually, it's her birthday today. Happy Birthday Bel!) found lj and pestered me to get onboard. I had moved to California the year before and she spent a lot of time on the internet, so she convinced me that this was the best way to keep up with each other. I set up the journal, made one entry, and then forgot about it as I went on with my life. So technically I started blogging May 15th, 2003, but I didn't write here even semi-regularly until January of 2004. I've been checking in ever since, at first a few times a month to keep track of my life here so I can look back on it fondly when I'm old and no longer running a million miles an hour, but much more in the last year or two as I found more friends online and it became as much a way to keep in touch with everyone everyday as it is a way for me to communicate with myself in the future. Hello FutureSelf. You're pretty happy right now.

3. You are only allowed to watch one TV show for the rest of your life. It can be past or present. Fear not as they will always create new episodes just for you. What would it be? Aside from Veronica Mars (had to throw that little wrench in the works).

Sports Night, definitely. I've loved this show since the pilot aired. I wrote a ten page paper on the racial and sexual politics of Sports Night for my TV history & criticism class (and got an A.) I yelled at the TV so loudly when Gordon was wearing Casey's shirt that my suitemate rushed into the room, positive I was being attacked. Lines from this show still make me grin whenever I hear them quoted, and I will watch everything Felicity Huffman and Peter Krause are ever involved in (I already loved Robert Guillaume long before this show, from Benson. He was the first star I ever saw, in Solvang at the Mustard House restaurant, when I was four. He was with a six foot tall skinny woman in a bright red silk slip dress with (I kid you not) a red feather boa. I thought she was the most glamourous thing I'd ever seen, right behind Miss Yvonne, of course.)

4. As a kid, were you a "girlie girl" or a "tomboy"?

I was a strange mix of both. I hated being told to go play outside, because I was terrified of getting hurt or dirty; and I loved pretty clothes, some dresses in particular so much that my Mom and I got into hiding wars when I outgrew them; and my favorite games of pretend usually centered around setting up a house, taking care of babies, or anything with Barbies. But then I also loved going to baseball games with my Dad and playing catch with him in the backyard; pretending my swingset was the Millennium Falcon and I was Han Solo flying it (I usually liked to be Princess Leia but I was so convinced she couldn't fly the Falcon that I made myself switch and be Han to fly it;) and then there's school. I was always the tallest girl in school. As the biggest girl, I was often the protector for all the smaller girls. Any little boy messed with any little girl, he had to deal with me. So I suppose the poundings I handed out when necessary would make me a tomboy. But one who really liked pink and babies and hated splinters.

5. Honestly, now that you are "in the loop," did Snow White perform "favors" for the Seven Dwarves?

Well, she did keep their house clean as a whistle and their tummies full, but as far as I know, that's as far as the favors went. Wait a couple years til my pay grade gets raised and maybe I'll have more information on that subject. :)

Thanks Kapgar! That was great!

If this looks like fun to you...

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by e-mailing you five questions. I get to pick them, and you have to answer them all.
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Dream Job Beginnings

  • Apr. 13th, 2007 at 10:38 AM
Spaceman Mickey
As a Disney fan, one question I get asked a lot is what job I would want at Disneyland. When I was little it was Storybook Boat Land girl, no question. They got to wear really pretty full-skirted dresses with crisp white pinafores like Alice and ride around the Storybook Land Canal ALL DAY while sitting on the back cabin part of the boat and telling stories. Sweet.

If I had my druthers now, it would be either Jungle Cruise Skipper (corny jokes are a quick and sure way to make me love you) or Tour Guide. More likely Tour Guide, because they get to go everywhere, instead of just behind Switzer Falls* five times an hour.

My dream job (now that the Archives at MGM are no more and I cannot rule them, watching whatever musical I want all day,) is to work in the Disney Archives, hopefully someday running them. I usually half-joke that I want Dave Smith's job, but only after he and Robert Tieman are both done doing it. In a perfect world, my ultra-fun duties at the Archives would include a couple days a month as a Tour Guide at Disneyland. I know the Guides are highly trained, it's the most coveted job among employees at The Park, and it just plain doesn't work that way. Anyone noticed the words "dream" and "perfect" being used here? It would be a blast. Or so I think. Or so I thought til I stumbled across this classic article through a link in one of today's MousePlanet pieces. Wowzers.

Nope. Dream hasn't changed. I'd still love to be able to moonlight as a Tour Guide at the Happiest Place on Earth.

*HERE IT IS FOLKS, THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR... THE EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD... THE BACKSIDE OF WATER!

Hey, I told you I dug the corny jokes. I'm done now.

Ok, just one more.

Meet the Robinsons

Disney = Made of Awesome
You really should. Meet the Robinsons, I mean. BECAUSE THEY'RE WONDERFUL.

I went to the 12.01am screening at the El Capitan last night of Meet the Robinsons, and I loved it. Not only is the movie beautiful, but the story is interesting and involving and great for grown-ups as well as kids. (See, Dreamworks? You can make an animated film for both children and their parents without having one of your most beloved and oft-imitated characters saying "I'm sexy!" or using the word "ass.")

And if you know and love [info]casketgirl like I do, you've got another really good reason to go see this! Her credit is HUGE! There are only four names on the screen during her credit and it's great to see her get such recognition. Go you [info]casketgirl! We're really proud of you! Ron and I cheered and whooped like good little fangirls when your name appeared. :)

Adam West made an appearance (he's in the movie) and made quite a few double entendres before they finally ushered him offstage. Did Disney not know who they were getting for the event?

Also amazing was the short before the main feature. They ran a stereoscopic 3D cartoon called "Working for Peanuts" starring Donald Duck and Chip & Dale. Y'know, the one where Donald's a Zookeeper and Chip & Dale steal the elephant's peanuts and eventually masquerade as albino chipmunks? The four-layer 3D was really beautiful. I want to see this movie at the El Cap again so I can see the short again. I wanted to take pics of that (and of Adam West doing his little schtick) but we were all the way over on the side near the headset-wearers running the event and I didn't want to get thrown out. So this is all I have to show you fine people:

In other news, I've also posted some pics from this fire in the hills on my flickr. [info]casketgirl and I saw the beginnings of it as we walked back from lunch on the lot and I've watched it get steadily worse from our windows. It's now so bad that you can't see the hill through the smoke, the smell is giving me a headache, and my eyes are stinging. We've just gotten the OK from the firemen on the lot to leave, so I think I'll be signing off for the day soon.
