Heart-- too much sugar is a good thing
From [info]mondaysabitch: Hot Rod

1. Have you ever been in a car accident?
Yep. No comment.
2. What's the longest road trip you've ever taken? NorCal to the east coast of Florida. At least, I'm pretty sure we drove. I was young. I think we took the RV.
3. What's the best song to cruise to? No contest. The Passenger.
4. What's your dream car? I want a little white Karmann Ghia. I would call him Bob. We'd be very happy.
5. What's your favourite movie about cars? About cars? Hmm, none. With cars in it? Let's go with "The Americanization of Emily." I think part of his job is to procure cars for people, right?

Also, from [info]afrocurl:

1. It begins with a list of all 26 letters of the alphabet.
2. Comment with something for me to talk about that starts with one of those letters. Make me babble about anything -- TV shows, actors, actresses, food, idk, be creative.
3. One topic per letter -- it's like a claims list! I will cross off letters as topics appear.
4. I will post a new post talking about all 26 topics given to me!

Really, I will try. We'll see what happens, at least.

I lied.

Dana head-desk
It's the end of the day and I do not in fact have a real entry in me. Oh well. But I do have a meme and some other non-original yet AWESOME content. First, the awesomeness.

I've talked about Defective Yeti before, namely my attempt to ape his AFI 100 challenge (which ended in heartbreak and defeat and technically isn't ended yet, but more on that possibly tomorrow.) He is still the best ever with this, the coolest quiz ever. He's taken the lyrics to 50 great rock songs, and arranged each word in them alphabetically. Can you tell what they are? I only knew 23. I fail at rock music. But this does not mean I will listen to more Springsteen or Marley. This bird you cannot change.

And now, the meme! Stolen from my roommate Liz!

Y'know, this is going to take a lot of searching and saving and converting and saving again and I get off work in 15 minutes and plan to be in my pajamas within 30. That's right. You heard me. Tomorrow, good people. Have patience with me for another night. Besides, the rock quiz should keep y'all occupied for a bit.

PS-- Hey everybody, try to get your first hangover out of your system before you're 28 and it's Thursday and most responsible people are waiting until at least tonight to begin their wasteland weekends and you have to be at work and coherent and such. I do not recommend this. Though I do recommend bingo at Hamburger Mary's. That I am fully in favor of.

My Steve with chopsticks
I know, I know, all you get from me now is memes. But really, I've got a post in me later today, I think, including recap of March's secret goal and this month's not so secret goal. It's something to shoot for. Until then, I leave you with this tasty meme stolen from an email from my Dad. Only best for ljland.

If all of the desserts listed below were sitting in front of you, which would you choose?

Pick your dessert, and then look to see what psychiatrists think about you.

Here are your choices:
1. Angel Food Cake
2. Brownies
3. Lemon Meringue
4. Vanilla Cake with Chocolate Icing
5. Strawberry Shortcake
6. Chocolate on Chocolate
7. Ice Cream
8. Carrot Cake

No, you can't change your mind once you click back, so think carefully what your choice will be!

OK - Now that you've made your choice, this is what the research says about you:

One of each, please. )

Hey Juls! Juls_Chuls! Check this out.

I haven't even seen this stupid movie, and yet I posted this meme because one of the results is HSM, and you needed to know about this quiz and spend the next hour or so getting that answer. Good luck! :)

Come to the Dark Side
Appearances or otherwise.

Just like last week, I'm back with very little to offer. Lots of memes, all from [info]king_duncan, and far too few movie updates. AFI 100 in February is just not happening, folks. I'm too busy a little bee. It is my cross to bear.

Memes first!

TV meme:
Choose five series (no peeking before you choose them), list them, and then answer the questions behind the cut.

1. Sports Night
2. Veronica Mars
3. Doctor Who
4. Wonderfalls
5. Torchwood

Questions and answers! )

And similar music meme:
Pick your top 10 bands and answer the questions.

1. The Old 97s
2. Spoon
3. Paul Simon
4. Iggy Pop
5. Neko Case
6. Liz Phair
7. The Pretenders
8. The Rolling Stones
9. The Beatles
10. Elvis Costello

And away we go! )

23

AFI movie reviews... um... later. I need a cup of tea like wow.

Bullet points would be a step up.

Dinosaur speaks the truth about sleep.
You're not even getting those. Basically, all I've got for you are movie updates and memes. Because I'm exhausted.

2. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) - I liked it, but not nearly as much as Meet John Doe. That was just a better movie all around. This is a little too sappy, too self-consciously sweet, too naive. Did an America ever actually exist where this was at all possible? I can't believe people were ever this trusting and simple and singular, even in 1939. It's all too black and white. And I get that Capra never really went for realism and everything to him was one huge allegory and he always had a very idealized view of the world, but I guess this one just didn't work for me. Watch Meet John Doe instead. I know I've said that before, but it bears repeating. That's how good it is.

3. The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) - Not so much about war, as it is human nature and obsession. And men. Whoo boy, y'know so-called "chick flicks?" This is the exact opposite. There are a grand total of five women in this movie. Two are there solely to gaze longingly at William Holden, one to gaze longingly at the young kid on the mission with him, and the other two just carry the guns. It's good, and I love David Lean more with every movie I see by him, but I don't see myself watching this over and over again. It's all about power plays and stubborn priciples and other things I'm not fond of. And building a bridge. Maybe the end would have meant more to me if I hadn't already seen it hundreds of times in various GREAT FILMS MONTAGES, but oh well.

4. The Last Picture Show (1971) - Wow, there's a lot of sex and nudity in this movie. Not much goes on, so my brain had plenty of time to think that throughout this. Y'know how Hitchcock made "Psycho" in B&W on purpose to undercut the gore and make it not quite so graphic? I really think that's why this was in B&W, too, cause I don't know if they would have gotten away with all this in color back then. It's good, but sloooooooooooooooow. Not much happens, but you get to know the characters well. Goodness knows you're given more than enough time for that. This movie is a total downer. There is no comic relief, there aren't really any sympathetic characters, and it's a dreadfully dismal view of smalltown life. Make sure you've got a comedy to watch after this.

Man, I hope I start liking these movies more. I've got 13 left and only nine days in the month. I really don't think I'm going to make it, but I'll give it the old college try.

80s meme from king_duncan: )

Meme of Four from King_duncan: )

There was an Oscars meme from [info]mondaysabitch but I cut it cause I realized I've only seen one or two movies in each category if that. I'm not even planning on watching them. I'll be at Disneyland. I'm a bad moviegoer this year.

Little Miss Scatterbrain
What Erin Means

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.
You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.
At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.
You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.
You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.
You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

Hmmm... interesting. Don't know about it as a whole, but a few points are right on target.

Freaking Beaker Out
You Are Dr. Bunsen Honeydew

You take the title "mad scientist" to the extreme -with very scary things coming out of your lab.
And you've invented some pretty cool things, from a banana sharpener to a robot politician.
But while you're busy turning gold into cottage cheese, you need to watch out for poor little Beaker!
"Oh, that's very naughty, Beaker! Now you eat these paper clips this minute."

Dreams and memes, memes and dreams.

  • Nov. 9th, 2007 at 10:36 AM
WGA Strike 2007
So last night all my dreams were about transportation. Boring, mundane transportation. I was on buses, in cars, vans, commuter trains. I wasn't going anywhere interesting and the sky outside was always grey. I don't often remember dreams and they're not usually this thickly themed. I spent the entire night travelling, people, and got nowhere. I woke up exhausted. What does this mean?

Also, a far more interesting than the last paragraph meme, from [info]clndestyn:

1. Post a list of seven TV shows you love (current or canceled).
2. Have your friends list guess your favorite character from each show.
3. When guessed, bold the line and write a little bit about why you like that character.

1. Sports Night - Dana - [info]doctorphizzle got it! Yes, I love Dana. She was an inspiration to me despite (or perhaps because of) her pigheadedness and unperdictable nature. She was nurturing and harsh. I totally understood that.

2. Veronica Mars - Logan - [info]songlian got it! Yeah, this is a bit of a no-brainer. He's smart and funny and wonderful and just wants to love someone. His Dad's cold and Mom's gone and he's just so in need of someone who will stick around. And that's probably why I hated S3 Veronica so much, cause she just couldn't see that side of him that the rest of us did, but she was the only one who had a chance of making him happy.

3. Growing Pains - Carol - [info]songlian got it again! Oh, I WAS Carol. I identified with her as the geeky smart girl who was continually told she wasn't pretty or attractive. I hated the brother Mike with a passion still not equaled. Mike is probably my least favorite character from all of TV. When she got back together with her boyfriend Sandy (they'd broken up because of his drinking) and then they fought at the prom cause he was drinking again and she made him take her home early and then he got in an accident and died after they had a huge blow-out fight at her place cause he was driving drunk I cried. It may have been the first time I cried at TV and maybe the hardest. My heart was broken right along with Carol's, cause Sandy thought the world of her and that was great validation for dorky little me.

4. Doctor Who - The Ninth Doctor - [info]jonqui got it! Christopher Eccleston is half the reason I started watching in the first place and he did not disappoint. His Doctor is strong and funny and wonderful. It's really nice to get to see him smile for once, but I like him best when he's unapologetic about the difficult decisions he has to make.

5. The O.C. - Ryan Atwood - [info]molly_drew got it! Kid Chino is made of awesome. When he loves, he loves with all he is and forever. He would defend any of his friends and family with his last breath and that loyalty wins me over completely. He's just such a good, strong, honest person, and it was more than I could have hoped to get a glimpse of the wonderful man he was going to become in the finale. Just thinking about it I feel like I'm about to cry all over again.

6. Torchwood - Captain Jack Harkness - [info]jonqui and someone who wishes to remain anonymous got it! He's dark, he's mysterious, he's funny, he's tarty, he's smart, he's strong, he's witty, and come on people, he's just plain fun to look at. Captain Jack is a big part of my favorite episode from Doctor Who (definitely the Brit TV one where he blows Trinny & Suzannah away-- that cracked me up!) but on Torchwood he really comes into his own. He's just so intriguing. And did I mention how very very pretty?

7. Murphy Brown

From [info]mondaysabitch:

Chew On This

1. Did you need braces when you were younger?
Yes. Ugh. From February of freshman year of high school til just after prom senior year. Or was it just after senior pictures were taken? At any rate, we had the senior pictures retaken.

2. If you had to choose between being bitten by a vampire or a werewolf, which would it be? Vampire? I guess? They seem slightly less destructive, and I'd really rather be somewhat cognizant during my transformation. Werewolves look like they go crazy and kill everything in sight.

3. When was the last time you bit off more than you could chew? No comment.

4. Have you ever chipped a tooth? Oh yeah. Swam into the side of pool in Whistler, BC when I was 12 while on vacation. Was in a race with some kid I'd just met and I thought I had another length to go so I surfaced for air and lunged forward that last little bit for the race... right into the side of the pool. Made a big ole half moon out of my top two front teeth and shattered the bottom four. Was my first experience with novocaine and it was not a pleasant one. Top teeth look a mess and bottom teeth are still held together with a wire and cement.

5. If your smile had a name, what would it be? Well-intentioned Fred.

Real post to come? Ow. My head hurts.

Heart-- too much sugar is a good thing
First, from [info]mondaysabitch:

Very Scary

1. Do you have any recurring nightmares?
Nope. I don't have nightmares often. This is because I avoid scary books and movies because I know what a wuss I am and that I would have nightmares (or just not be able to sleep) if I didn't. Us cowards have to do what we can.

2. When was the last time you screamed in horror? Probably the last time I saw a spider or something similar in my house. Ugh.

3. What was the most bizarre thing you ever got while trick-or-treating? Candy? Nothing really bizarre. Not even a razor blade in an apple.

4. What do you consider to be the most over-used costume? BLACK CATS. SEXY PIRATES. UGH. STOP ALREADY.

5. What costume could someone wear that would be a turn-on for you? Anything really awesome that they made themselves. Or Navin R. Johnson with Pizza in a Cup. Which actually, would both be really awesome, and something that they had to make themselves.

Next up, from [info]playmayt:

You Are a Witch (or Warlock)

You are deviously brilliant and a perfect manipulator.
You somehow always end up getting what you want - without anyone knowing you're working behind the scenes.
Crafty and cunning, you can work your way out of any jam.
And it's easy for you to get people to do what you want, whether you're working for good or evil.

Your greatest power: Mind control

Your greatest weakness: Making people your puppets

You play well with: Ghosts

Really?

And finally:

What will your friends give you for Halloween?
clndestyn gave you some lollypops.
king_duncan gave you a chocolate bar.
king_duncan gave you Hershey's kisses.
king_duncan tricked you! They don't give you any candy!
princess_jennx gave you a chocolate bar.

I know this one is.

From [info]mondaysabitch:

Aging

1. If you could pause your aging process, at what age would you choose do to it? (Meaning you would not live forever, but live for 90 or so years at whatever age you chose).
This one seems pretty good. I suppose I'd stick at 27 or 28.

2. At what age did you (or will you) consider yourself to be an adult? Adult? What's that? Don't adults usually have their act together? Not me said the fly.

3. What do you think will be your most annoying trait when you’re a senior? Eh, what's that? I think I'm already losing my hearing so I'll probably ask everyone to repeat everything. Get ready for the fun now!

4. How does your current life compare with where you thought you’d be at this point when you were young? Completely different. When I was really young I was positive I'd be married and have kids by now. Hell, I thought I was going to marry faceless tall guy I was dancing with at my senior prom. He wasn't always faceless, sometimes he had Davy Jones' face, but still, you know what I mean. Then in high school I thought I was going to make movies, so by now I'd be spending a lot more time on set. In college I thought I was going into development, so by now I would be in a producer's office with files and scripts and a secretary of my own. But as for what I thought just a couple years ago? I'm much further along than that. Mickey Mouse is on my paychecks, yo. It's just a matter of time.

5. When would you like to retire? What do you see yourself doing with your life after retirement? I'd like to retire when I have enough money to live comfortably on for the rest of my life. I'd like for that to be early enough that I can still travel and do whatever I want. I see myself exploring the world, annoying my kids, spoiling my grandkids, and indulging my every whim. Ideally, fall in Texas for football season, winter with family, spring and summer travelling and visiting new baseball parks. I should probably start saving for all these grand plans pretty soon.

Icon Meme of Cuteness

Eddie- 70% how you look...
Like many awesome things in this crazy world, this comes from [info]stepliana:

Comment on this post. I'll choose seven userpics from your profile and you'll reply here (or you know, your own journal, whichever), explaining what they mean and why you're using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

The 7 icons she asked me about:

1. Mary Blair girl:
I <3 Mary Blair. Despite my overwhelming love for Frank & Ollie, Blaine Gibson, Bob Gurr, Eyvind Earle, and hundreds of other animators, artists, and imagineers who have shaped, colored, influenced, and built the Disney look over the years, her round world and use of color has really stuck with me. I believe this little girl comes from concept art she did for Three Caballeros. She's just darling. She usually comes into play on basic posts for which I have no real theme. She's just sorta me.

2. Fincher:
This is a quote from a movie I absolutely hated. It's on Brad Pitt's Tshirt in the photo on the cover of a magazine in Full Frontal, undeniably the worst movie by Steven Soderbergh. This waste of celluloid was made pretty soon after Joe Mechanic lost his job over the whole David Fincher's Fight Club not making a dime debacle, and this T was apparently Soderbergh's/Pitt's take on the deal. Or something. Maybe? At any rate, I have loved the quote ever since, say it all the time, and it's the only good thing in the movie. Seriously, don't watch it. It will make you question humanity. I use this when talking about movies or being kinda ranty.

3. My OTC:
If you've spent any time in any of the many terrifying TV fandoms, OTP means One True Pair to you, or the couple the show should never screw with. Likewise, OTC means One True Crack, as in the single substance I could never live without. This is a picture of a Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuit. I cannot live without these, even if all I can do all too often is dream about them. This is my One True Crack. I have another icon I use for all posts and comments to food comms, and use this when talking about food in my own lj or other people's personal ljs.

4. Cluedo:
I game, therefore I am. Clue is one of the first boardgames I remember playing when I was little. My wonderful and ever-patient babysitter Katrice used to play Clue with me for hours when I was six. I don't know how she did it. But I love boardgames still, and this usually pops up when I post about them.

5. I will cut you:
This kid is pissy. This kid is in no mood. This kid is not playing around. This kid will cut you. When I feel like that, he comes out to scowl. Think of him as an early warning detection system for when not to screw with me.

6. My Steve w/chopsticks:
My Steve! With chopsticks! One of the coolest men in the world, using the best eating utensils ever devised. Really, they are so useful, I am not even kidding. All the noodle problems presented by pasta, soup, all that? Dangers of being rude in not eating everything on your fork when attempting to enjoy dumplings and such? Solved by chopsticks. Also, he's cute in this and I really liked the colors and the whole look. That green by his arm is great. I use this when talking about food (I have lots of food icons cause I talk about it a lot, duh) or the overall awesomeness of My Steve.

7. Woo Woo for Lloyd:
Another Woot! icon, so we don't all get sick of OMFG YAY or Oh the thrills! Except I don't use this very often. Actually, I forgot I even had it. Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to use this more often.

That's it. Let me know if you want in on this kooky action.

Emily Littella-- Nevermind. :)
When was the last time you...

1.Cleaned out your closet?
Hmm. A few months ago, but not as thoroughly as I should/ want to. Lots I need to get rid of. There's no reason why I shouldn't fit in this closet. Must get rid of unwearable things.

2.Went to a concert? Rufus Wainwright doing his Judy Garland show at the end of September. About three weeks ago. A-maz-ing.

3.Had a milkshake? Had a few sips of [info]jenn_ness's Haagen-Dazs Bailey's shake last night. Yum.

4.Got all dressed up? The reunion? It was a cute new top? A couple weeks ago. Maybe it counts?

5.Went grocery shopping? Last week? The week before? Probably the week before. The last time I made chicken & corn tacos. Whenever that was.

Exhausted, physically, mentally, everything. MouseAdventure has eaten my brain.
