Movie Quest 2006 Vol. VIII

Fincher Never Hurt Nobody
I finished the movie last night! One away, one away, one away! I will insist my parents and I see a movie either Saturday night or Sunday afternoon, cause I'm not coming this close and not making my goal! One hundred new movies in 2006. Sweet. I've probably seen this many in years past, but I either didn't notice it, or didn't think about them this much. I've enjoyed this exercise cause writing about the movies later really made me think about my reactions to them and what I liked and didn't like. Sometimes my opinion of the film changed as I was writing about it. Very interesting, to me, at least.

Movie Quest 2006 Movies 71 - 80:

71. Kinky Boots

I almost finished a movie last night, but the evil trolls that live inside my DVD player are determined to defeat me! They shall not win! Victory will be mine!

Oh, and I'll also finish that movie. Then check if Mom and Dad want to go see The Good Shepherd tonight, cause I would really like to. And no, not just because I have it in my Movie Moguls lineup. :) It actually looks really good!

Movie Quest 2006 Movies 61 - 70:

61. Thumbsucker

62. Failure to Launch

63. V For Vendetta

64. Little Miss Sunshine

65. Melinda & Melinda

66. Inside Man

67. Winter Passing

68. Syriana

Was alright for a college football movie that has the nerve to both exclude the Longhorns and star Sean Asstin. (Deliberate misspelling. Don't try to correct me.) )

And I saw another on Christmas Eve and finished something last night, so I think I'm only one away from my goal! Woo-hoo! I'll double check that cause we know how horrible I am with numbers, but I'm looking forward to meeting my (modified) goal. Maybe next year I'll actually make it to 150. Or I'll have a life. Whatever.

OMG! OMG! OMG! They're making a movie of Sweeney Todd! EEEEEEEEEE! Unfortunately, "they" are Tim Burton (though he could be cool for this) and Death Warmed Over, who will be Mrs. Lovett (Slap her, Ms. Lansbury! She can't possibly fill your shoes.) But Alan Rickman will be evil Judge Turpin and Johnny Depp will play the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, so all is not lost. All is looking pretty damn good. And Sacha Baron Cohen will play Signor Adolfo Pirelli, but I can't for the life of me remember that character. [info]playmayt? Help? Daughter Lucy's voice teacher? Who that?

Movie Quest 2006 Movies 51-60:

51. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

52. Elizabethtown

53. Cars

54. Superman Returns

55. Jarhead

56. The Devil Wears Prada

57. The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

58. My Super Ex-Girlfriend

59. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

60. Junebug

Clark Kent is supposed to fade and not be memorable to help with the whole cover, but if he could express what's inside, he could probably produce a broken heart enough even for you, Marianne. He is the Elinor Dashwood of superheroes, so let the man pine in peace. )

Brrr... have returned from freezing holidays in NorCal with fam to work in freezing cubicle in the mouse's house. I usually like to leave Christmas decorations up through the Epiphany, cause as far as I'm concerned Christmas encompasses everything between the day after Thanksgiving til Seis de Enero when the Three Wise Men finally show up, but since I had to fly home last night and be at work bright and early today instead of hitting the Boxing Day sales, the holiday already feels kinda over. I might feel differently when my parents show up tomorrow, who knows.

Woo-hoo! Another one down last night! Only four more by New Year's. Won't be hitting the AMC with Mom and Dad this Christmas Day to catch the newest Disney release (our usual tradition) but I should still be able to fit them in.

Movie Quest 2006 Movies 21 - 30:

21. Just Like Heaven

22. Mrs. Harris

23. Iron Giant

By no means buy this movie. It would only encourage them. )

Veronica Mars-- Thumbs up Dick
I seem to have spectacularly screwed up the numbering on these cause I just found two #12s and two #13s. D'oh! Could this be why I had such problems with math in high school? Might work out though, cause I think I'm two movies closer to my goal! Woo-hoo!

EDIT: I am a complete spaz, cause in addition to the 2 above, I also managed to skip a block of 4 reviews later on. So I'm actually at #95. Seriously, people. I'd be dangerous if I could count.

Movie Quest 2006 Movies 11 - 20:

11. Madagascar

12. The Corpse Bride

13. The Upside of Anger

14. Rory O'Shea Was Here

15. Closet Land

16. Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit

17. Munich

18. Support Your Local Sheriff!

19. Flightplan

20. No Down Payment

Doesn't hurt that Eric Bana is the most beautiful human being to ever exist. Doesn't hurt at all. )

Heart-- too much sugar is a good thing
am considering upping my new movie goal for the year to 250. five a week. I can do that. as long as I get my rewatching habit under control. watched Closer last night. again. just cause it was on. should have watched Man With the Golden Arm, but oh well.

yes, am still bored.

think I'll read the huge book sitting on my desk now. sigh.

proper post that was promised:

Heart-- too much sugar is a good thing
ahem.

well, since it's the end of a long week and I'm doing this at the creepy netcafe cause psycho is still all warpathy about the internet at work... it might not be so proper. might be merely adequate. I have the distinct feeling that it will be in outline form, cause I'm just not capable of proper sentences and paragraphs and whatnot right now. Do you have any idea how long it took me to spell "Twelfth" earlier this evening? and it still doesn't look right. must get home...

at any rate. New Year's Resolutions:

1. I will watch at least 150 new movies this year. New to me. Movies I have never seen, new and old. The first was "Brokeback Mountain" on the second. absolutely beautiful. highly recommended. I'll try to keep a running tally here as I watch them. will hopefully get to the second tonight: "Unfaithfully Yours." mmm... Rex Harrison.

2. the health thing that everyone vows at the beginning of the year. yeah. really mean it this time. yada yada yada.

3. I will write a letter each week to both the manager and the director of the Disney Archives. since I don't have their actual addresses, do you think sending it to the studio and specifying "first floor of the Frank G. Wells building" will be adequate? I will send these letters until they call me in for an interview. or serve me with a restraining order. whichever comes first.

4. will clean and organize damn car and apartment pronto. have not been able to have anyone over for months because I'm horrified by the mess, and don't even want to imagine what someone walking into would think. must stop old bad habits.

5. speaking of old bad habits: will shed negative energy. will try not to cuss so much in the car, and generally get so worked up over other people's shortcomings. I can't control it, freaking out won't fix it, all it does it raise my blood pressure. must learn to let go.

6. speaking of letting go: will attend to my emotional and mental health first and let go of bad influences and deadweight "friends." friends call each other. friends make the effort. I vow to be better in my efforts to call people and keep in touch. I expect as much from my friends. three unanswered calls is now my limit (and a generous one, at that. if it gets to three, know that I'm already pissed.) after that, we won't speak til you call me. I'm done chasing.

7. must stop biting fingernails. am far too old for this crap.

I think that's it. I reserve the right to amend and/or add to this list at anytime.

um. I think the Christmas recap is going to have to wait. too tired and beaten down by the week. talk to y'all later.
