Fandom as Ex-Boyfriends Meme

Occasionally I do silly, frivolous, ridiculous things. This meme is one of the least outrageous and destructive of them. Feel free to skip it, though.

Also, MOM: Sorry about all the cussing. It was cut and paste, I swear.

Stolen from [info]stepliana, because I've been comparing VMars to an abusive ex for long enough now.

The one who seduced you and fucked you over and broke your heart in a million pieces and laughed about it:
[info]stepliana's answer, "The Black Donnellys" is pretty good. I reserve my answer until after said program premieres tomorrow night. There'll be an extremely ranty post that will link back to this one, don't worry.

The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp in the sheets:
Old sitcoms like "Mad About You," and "The Wonder Years," and "Benson" and "Night Court," and "Maude." There are days when I really miss those shows. ALSO, "The OC." I rewatch those discs most often of all the TV I own. In fact, if the last two discs of Dexter S1 aren't in the mailbox when I got home, I just realized what tonight's plans are.

The mysterious dark gothy one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 a.m. at weird coffeehouses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized he really was fucking crazy:
"Damages." I broke this off before it got really crazy. My poor roommate is still caught up in it. I feel like I'm the soldier who's lucky they got killed early in the war and my poor roommate is still stuck miserable and under fire with horrible trenchfoot in the freezing rain. That's how bad this show is.

The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor, and whom you'd still really like to fuck again although you're relieved he doesn't actually live in town:
"24." I watched all of S1 in three days. Three days that I also worked 10 hour shifts. I could do nothing else until they were done. It was kinda bad. I haven't watched a single episode since. They're like crack.

The steady:
"Sports Night." Now and forever.

The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with:
"The Closer." I watched a few of this season's episodes with my roommate, but I'm going to have to netflix it from the beginning to properly fall in love with this show. And the TV queue is already close to 500. So we'll see when that happens.

The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with but ultimately you're just good buddies 'cause the friendship is there but the chemistry ain't:
"House." I just can't get that excited about a procedural. Also, I don't like the deep gravelly voice Hugh Laurie uses in it, and I have issues with non-funny Hugh Laurie. As in it confuses the hell out of me.

The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool guy except it's never really gone anywhere:
"Heroes." Y'all just won't shut up about it. And yes, one of you finally forced loaned me S1. So I will watch it and see.

The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at him and thinking, "Him? How the hell did he land all these cool babes?":
"Lost." I hated the first four episodes. I've been told this means I have no soul, but really, it means I have more time Wednesday nights. Whatev.

The one your friend has fallen for like a ton of bricks and whom she keeps babbling to you about on the phone for hours, and you'd be happy for her except you just know it's going to end badly:
Hmm. "Supernatural." Based on how Buffy, VMars, Smallville (ongoing,) and many others limped painfully into that great night, I am worried about y'all. I see nothing but insane love and enthusiasm on my flist, and I worry that when it turns, it's gonna turn bad in a big way.

The ones you repeatedly cheat on your steady with:
Friday Night Lights, Pushing Daisies, The Office, Six Feet Under, Coupling, Wonderfalls.

TiVo is trying to kill me. Also, a meme.

Good Puppy
Seriously. TiVo has it in for me. Somehow, even though I set up the account, my email address is registered on the account, and it's my debit card that gets hit automatically every month for the service, I am not the billing contact and therefore cannot update the card info on the account. Which is a problem as my debit card expires this month (already got and activated the new one) and updating the billing info so that TiVo keeps behaving is probably the surest way to keep the peace in my house.

Also, there are no TiVo deals right now. Which is bad. As I have realized that I desperately want a TiVo of my own before the new season starts. Last year my roommate and I conveniently agreed that Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls were essential to life (well, for the first few weeks of the season at least,) but this season, I am afraid our tastes have diverged. I've recently fallen for Torchwood and would like to start watching Graham Norton again, and while I'm happy to watch the ABC stuff I'm looking forward to at work, I will need to at least try Moonlight, and I will need FNL like I need air. I'd also like to check out Back to You, Reaper, Gossip Girl, Chuck, and Bionic Woman, and keep up with The Office and 30 Rock.

So I will call TiVo tonight. I'd like to do it right now, but since part of my job is to answer the phones, that might not go over so well. I will get this billing issue straightened out once and for all (have dealt with it before and am a bit peeved that it was not fixed then) and see what deals TiVo is willing to offer me to get another box and give them even more money. You'd think they'd want the money at least.

Oh yes. The meme. From [info]stepliana:

Comment here and I will reply to you and tell you what icon of yours I associate with you. Once I reply, please repost this in your own journal, because I want to know what icon you associate with me.

Why do I not have an SNL or Dan Ackroyd icon? What have I been thinking? How have I been wasting my time?

That's it.

I'm on a mission from God.

PS- The Office. Tonight. I have no words. It was that good.

How cool is that! Take 2

BitTorrent Can Bite Me

and so can iTunes.

After fighting bittorrent and pestering a friend for over half an hour (I know, I'm defeated by technology easily) I gave up on the stupid site. Stupid can't find anything non-user friendly crap. So I hit iTunes, downloaded the updated 7.0 version of iTunes, and PAID for an episode. Actually, I paid for two before I gave up on that as well. It took almost 25 minutes for each epi to download (longer than they run, actually) and they played very badly, all choppy and stop motiony. Yeah, so my computer is four and a half years old. It's only when I try to do stuff on it that I really notice. Finally I just read all the S3 recaps on wikipedia, which were surprisingly detailed and fit the bill perfectly. I can't wait to see the new episode tomorrow night!

Late to the party

Heart-- too much sugar is a good thing
but enjoying it all the same.

First I have a couple apologies to make. To everyone who ever told me to watch the American version of "The Office" and I resisted or protested or cited the American "Coupling" as a source of heart-breaking defeat, I sincerely apologize and promise to take your viewing advice forever and ever. Cause shh - don't tell anyone - but I think I like the American better than the UK. Ow - Please Stop Throwing Things At Me! It's just easier, y'know?

Also, J - you don't read this, you've never read this, and hell, we haven't even spoken in two years, but I'm sorry for making such merciless fun of you for watching "The OC." It is brilliant and I am hooked. You knew and it wasn't until the show's cancellation was announced that I even watched a single episode. My bad.

According to wikipedia I have 12 episodes of The Office that I need to watch by tomorrow night in order to get completely caught up so I can start watching in real time. I'm going to be one busy girl tonight.

And oh yeah, the new season of Rome started off great and can only get better! It didn't even get good til Julius died! Now all the fun begins. Woo-hoo!
Heart-- too much sugar is a good thing
Let me count the ways:

I LOVE that Trouty's every entrance is greeted with "Really?" by Mike.

I LOVE Ryan Atwood. His expressions are almost Loganesque. I feel very protective towards him. No one's allowed to hurt him. Ever.

I LOVE Jim Halpert when he looks at the camera. And when he talks. And when he's listening to Pam's messages. And when he breathes.

On the other hand:

I like sports metaphors as much as the next girl (maybe more) but enough is enough. It's getting a little old. Remember the "commercials" from Six Feet Under S1? They dropped the gimmick for a reason. Look into that.

Summer is whorish and I don't see the appeal. EDIT: They completely changed her character after the first three episodes and she quickly proved to be made of awesome and puppies. She is now one of my favorites.

Pam is quickly going the way of Diane Court in my book. And that is not a good way to go, my friends.

Oh yeah. Love affair's back on. Me and Farnsworth got some catching up to do. It's not cheating to involve my DVD player and a little streaming video, is it? I don't think so...
